Once a year, the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) gives eligible, low-income older adults 25 dollars in coupons to buy locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets in New York State. Booklets are available mid July until September 30th. They are given out on a first come, first serve basis. Only one coupon booklet is given out to an eligible individual. All coupons must be used at participating farmers' markets by November 30th.
Farmers markets give out up-to-date information about healthy eating and have cooking demonstrations using local produce in the market. Adding more fruits, vegetables and whole grain to the meals we eat helps make us healthier. At the same time, this program helps support farming which is a major part of the state's economy.

Pharmacy may not refuse client prescribed medication if patient does not have co-payment, other payment arrangements may be made.

Sign up for Medicare Parts A (hospital) and B (medical) through the local Social Security office. Workers can also mail replacement Medicare cards, if needed.
Residents may also sign up for Medicare and take care of many services online by creating an account at www.mysocialsecurity.gov.
Working in conjunction with the Herkimer County Office for the Aging, HIICAP serves as the Health Insurance information provider for the County. HIICAP is a federally-funded program from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and administered by the New York State Office for the Aging, the Herkimer County Office for the Aging, and Catholic Charities. HIICAP provides clients with free, unbiased, and confidential information relating to Medicare, low-income subsidy programs, EPIC, Medigaps, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Part D, billing issues, durable goods providers, long-term care insurance, Medicaid, Patient Assistance Programs and other health insurance issues. Trained staff and volunteers answer questions, advocate, handle enrollments and disenrollments, and refer clients for additional services.
