What is Medical Equipment?
Medical equipment and assistive devices help to promote the independence of older adults and people. Hospital beds, wheelchairs and walking aids, bathroom safety devices, and oxygen tanks are just some of the products and devices that are available for home use.
What services are generally offered?
Many companies sell or rent medical equipment for home use. The TRAID Program has 12 Regional TRAID Centers. They offer information, training, device demonstration, technical assistance and advocacy on how to obtain and use assistive technology services and devices. TRAID also helps people sell, donate or obtain used assistive devices for people.
How do I choose what kind of medical /adaptive equipment I need?
Ask your doctor what type of equipment would be helpful.
How do I pay for medical /adaptive equipment?
Your insurance may cover some or all of the cost to purchase or rent equipment. You may have to pay for out of pocket for certain items. Some agencies may have a Loan Closet that lends new or gently used equipment for home use. For more information contact your local NY Connects Program.
