Peer Mentoring
•Peer mentoring provides the opportunity for people with disabilities to meet with TLCIL staff, many of whom have disabilities or personal experience with a disability, to discuss goals, concerns and disability-related experiences. TLCIL's trained staff can offer practical advice and assistance, and when necessary, provide referrals to appropriate agencies and organizations.
•** Peer mentoring should not be confused with mental health counseling. While mental health counseling involves a professional-client relationship, peer counseling consists of a peer relationship in which both the consumer and TLCIL's staff person are dialoging about a disability-related issue to the end of meeting a specified goal.
