Medicaid is a medical assistance program funded by county, state and federal governments to provide help with medical expenses in the event that you are unable to pay for medical care privately or with health insurance. To qualify, your income and assets must fall within certain guidelines that change every year. If you are eligible for, or receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you automatically qualify for Medicaid. However, you must notify the Department of Social Services of your eligibility for SSI and Medicaid. For further information, refer to the local listings in the back of this booklet for the telephone number of the nearest Social Services office, or call The Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services: (914) 813-6300
