The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is an employment and savings incentive program for families who live in affordable housing. Some of the program offerings include case management, services that help participants find employment and reach other goals, and escrow accounts into which the Housing Authority deposits the increased rent that a family as its job earnings increase. Families that complete this program may withdraw funds from these accounts after five years.
The FSS Programs helps residents of our Conventional Public Housing Program and HOPE VI residential developments to achieve self-sufficiency. Through coordinated job training, housing, childcare, and supportive services, the FSS program will assist families toward self-sufficiency and economic independence - one of the ultimate goals of People First.
The primary aim of the People First FSS Program is to assist our low-income housing residents to become self-sufficient and reduce their independence on government programs. Case Management and supportive services delivered through an interconnected network of agencies and will enable residents to achieve residential stability, increase skill level and/or income, and promote greater self-determination.
