Educational Services

  • Description:

At Cabvi, we offer comprehensive services for children with visual impairments from birth through age 21. We provide services to children in the child's least restrictive environment, in both the home, school and community settings.

Our team of specialized professionals provide functional vision and compensatory skills training, incorporating concept development, mobility, and use of adaptive aids ad low vision devises. Training is provided to parents to arm them with the skills and knowledge so they feel confident in helping their children grow and develop. School staff receive on-going support from CABVI professionals to ensure their students are successful in the school setting.

At all ages, self-help is a vital component of our Children's Services. The more children are able to do independently, the better image they have of themselves as they build their future. We strive to increase a child's independence through:

    - Mastery of alternate methods of learning

    - Development of compensatory

    - Efficient use of remaining vision

Early Intervention: Birth - 3 years old - When services are provided soon after a diagnosis, it increases a child's potential to reach developmental milestones. It is important to bring these experiences to the child to help the child explore his or her world. Early intervention services take place in the home setting and family centered. Families are often involved in sessions to ensure they feel well-equipped to work with their child on a daily basis.

Preschool: 3-5 years old - Preschool services focus on concept development, which prepares children for formal schooling. Children are encouraged to explore the world using all of their senses. Through this multi-sensory approach, children are able to learn about their environment, understand it, and navigate it safely.

School Age Services: 5-21 years old - Our specialized professionals serve children in their school district. Our providers, which consist of Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Vision Rehab Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Adaptive Technology Specialists, work with students at various levels, through various grades. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service to allow each child to achieve their highest level of independence.
