  • Employment Services

    Delaware Opportunities provides a variety of services to help low income people obtain and retain employment. All applicants for public assistance are required to report to Delaware Opportunities for enrollment in an employment assistance program. The Better Employment Training Skills Program is a month long training program assisting in developing resumes, gaining computer skills and otherwise preparing for employment. Delaware Opportunities seeks to place individuals in a work experience for persons receiving public assistance. People on the crew receive work credit to maintain eligibility for public assistance while gaining work experience. The work crew provides assistance to municipalities, churches, and not-for-profit organizations. Crew members are supervised and learn skills and job experience, but are also assisted with applying for employment in the private sector. Job coaches are available to assist with the job search and to provide ongoing support to assist the program participant retain a job.

  • Life Skills Training

    According to the National Registry of Evidence-based programs and practices (NREPP), Life Skills is “a program that aims to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use and violence by targeting the major social and psychological factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors.”

    In short, it teaches students the skills necessary to lead a happy, productive life. Life Skills shows students how to have positive behaviors, relationships, and develop a personal sense of well being.

    The Council has programming for students 3rd to 12th grade, in addition to a ‘Transitions’ program for young adults age 16-20. A program will take six to twelve weeks, depending on grade level. Students complete worksheets, engage in discussion, and listen to short lectures for one hour, each week.

    Each grade has it’s own age appropriate curriculum that cover one or more of the following skills:

  • RCIL: Ticket to Work

    Social Security's Ticket to Work program supports career development for people with disabilities who want to work. Social Security beneficiaries age 18 through 64 qualify. The Ticket to program is free and voluntary. The Ticket program helps people with disabilities progress toward financial independence.

    Choosing to work can change your life. The Ticket to Work program and Work Incentives allow you to keep your benefits while you explore employment, receive vocational support and gain work experience. If you are age 18 - 64 and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) you already qualify.
