  • Employment Services

    Delaware Opportunities provides a variety of services to help low income people obtain and retain employment. All applicants for public assistance are required to report to Delaware Opportunities for enrollment in an employment assistance program. The Better Employment Training Skills Program is a month long training program assisting in developing resumes, gaining computer skills and otherwise preparing for employment. Delaware Opportunities seeks to place individuals in a work experience for persons receiving public assistance. People on the crew receive work credit to maintain eligibility for public assistance while gaining work experience. The work crew provides assistance to municipalities, churches, and not-for-profit organizations. Crew members are supervised and learn skills and job experience, but are also assisted with applying for employment in the private sector. Job coaches are available to assist with the job search and to provide ongoing support to assist the program participant retain a job.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation

    The Vocational Rehabilitation Services Department at JM Murray assists individuals in developing long-term vocational goals to align with their unique skills and strengths. It is our mission to put people first. Therefore, our vocational rehabilitation services encourage the individuals we serve to focus on the things that they can do, rather than the skills that limit their vocational performance

    Prevocational Services at JM Murray provides daily vocational support to people with developmental disabilities who are not yet ready to work in the community. The goals of these services are to enhance work readiness and vocational independence.

    Individuals participate in work activities at JM Murray’s Rt. 13 campus to acquire new, improve existing, and retain current work skills. We offer soft skill training, which provides individuals with the skills necessary to be successful in any occupation. Specifically, we assist individuals to improve work skills such as attention to task, time management, and appropriate dress and behavior for a work atmosphere.

    In many cases, individuals may benefit from receiving on-the-job training to help them prepare for a successful career. The Vocational Training Services Department at JM Murray teaches valuable work skills in a real work environment. This hard skill training is offered in a variety of areas, including:

    •General assembly and packaging

    •Manufacturing and production of goods

    •Food service training in dish washing, food and sandwich preparation, grill work, and dining room assistance

    St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Community Prevocational Services assist participants in developing employment readiness skills in an integrated community work setting. Participants will be taught about work experiences through volunteer efforts. Community Prevocational Services help to prepare participants to work by teaching the skills needed to be successful in a community work environment. Staff provide lessons and teach skills needed to build on a person’s strong points and assist with developing the abilities needed to pursue work in the future.
