Run by Broome-Tioga Workforce New York, Experience Works is a national, charitable, community-based organization that helps seniors get the training they need to find good jobs in their communities. Experience Works helps people break out of poverty and reclaim their lives and dignity through work.

Programs that enable individuals with disabilities, people who abuse drugs or alcohol, or people who have emotional problems to obtain the training and employment experiences they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Services may include vocational evaluation, work adjustment, work experience, training in marketable skills and placement in competitive employment or a sheltered work environment.

Provides vocational guidance and counseling, sponsor training and education, assists in job placement; and helps individuals obtain employment.

Trainings, including self-advocacy, hygiene awareness, sensitivity training, employment strategies, interview skills, finance and budgeting, customer service skills, leadership development, team building, conflict resolution, service dog etiquette, benefits 101, job-interviewing skills, customized trainings, and much more.

Today, organizational success depends upon its ability to embrace diversity. Employees from diverse backgrounds bring a diverse collection of skills and experiences. Although diversity is often used to refer to differences among individuals such as ethnicity, gender, age and religion, there is a growing awareness that disability is a natural part of diversity, and businesses can benefit by taking steps to ensure people with disabilities are represented in their workforce.

DEC1Additionally, Section 503 prohibits federal contractors and subcontractors from discriminating in employment against individuals with disabilities, and requires these employers to take affirmative action to recruit, hire, promote, and retain these individuals. Federal regulations established a nationwide 7% utilization goal for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Vocational rehabilitation and disability employment programs help people with disabilities enter the workforce, however these individuals are often under-employed, and employers don’t have a resource they can used to find qualified people with disabilities to fill higher level position s within their organization.

DEC2The Center for Disability Rights (CDR) is filling that need by providing a free service that connects employers interested in hiring people with disabilities with qualified candidates. Job seekers with disabilities who are eager to advance their career, change jobs, or replace a former position will have a recruitment and placement program working strictly on their behalf.

Employer Signup

Employers who are interested in finding qualified candidates with disabilities can sign up for this free service. After providing some basic information about the company or organization and setting up an account, an employer can post specific job listings. The Center for Disability Rights (CDR) will review the posted positions and determine if any candidates with disabilities match the qualifications. If there is a match, CDR will forward the candidate information to the employer.

This is a free matching service to connected employers with job seekers who have disabilities. CDR is not serving as an employment agency, does not meet with candidates to review their qualifications or discuss the accommodations individuals may require.

Job seekers with disabilities can sign up for this free service. Simply set up an account and provide the Center for Disability Rights (CDR) with basic information on your qualifications. ACCES-VR provides vocational counseling and rehabilitation services that result in successful employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities and their employers.

Matches seniors who want to help seniors who need help. Services available include: cooking, light housekeeping, companionship, personal care, shopping, transportation, yard work, home maintenance and small repairs, respite care, and more. Call for more information.

The Regional Center for Independent Living (RCIL) was awarded grant funding from the New York State Department of Education in 2016 to pilot a three year Peer Integration program in parternship with our local ACCES-VR office in Rochester, New York. As a result of these funds, RCIL hired two Peer Independent Living Service Specialists to work out of the ACCES-VR office. Each Peer Specialist will work with 100 ACCES-VR consumers per year, one-on-one, to provide core Independent Living services with the goal of obtaining a job. They will additionally deliver group trainings to ACCES-VR consumers based on Independent Living skills and the services they identify as most critical or necessary during their one-on-ones, and from topic suggestions provided by ACCES-VR counselors. Peer Specialists will also deliver group technical assistance trainings to ACCES-VR counselors on topics they request.
