Child Protective Services is the only government entity that is required to investigate child abuse and maltreatment reports within families to protect children (under 18 years old) from further abuse or maltreatment and to provide rehabilitative services to children, parents, and other family members involved.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center focuses on child abuse response, healing and prevention through collaborative service, awareness, education and leadership. Bivona will help children and families through the healing process, the investigation, evaluation and if appropriate, the possible trial.
Bivona Child Advocacy Center’s partners with Child Protective Services, social workers, law enforcement, prosecutors, medical professionals, therapists, advocates, and volunteers under one roof. Children who come to Bivona receive an interview, a medical examination, meet with a victim advocate and connect with a therapist, in a warm, child-friendly environment.
Team members work together to provide the child and family the support services they need—all the way through trial and beyond.
Overseen by the Department of Social Services (DSS), Child Protective Services (CPS) is aimed at identfication, treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Investigates reports of abuse/neglect and arranges provision of services nessessary to ensure protection of children and to stabilize family life whenever possible.

Programs/Services? Identifying such adults who need assistance or who have no one willing and able to assist them responsibly? Providing prompt response and investigation of adults at risk? Assessing the individualÆs situation and service need? Providing counseling to clients, their families, or other responsible adults on handling affairs of at risk persons? Arranging for appropriate alternative living arrangements as determined necessary? Assisting in the location of social services, medical care and other resources in the community? Arranging for guardianship, conservatorship, commitment, or the protective placement as needed.? Providing advocacy and assistance in arranging for legal service to assure receipt of rights and entitlements? Providing homemaker and housekeeper/chore service as determined necessary? Supervision of all residential services (family-type homes) including services provided in these homesEligibility : All individuals 18 years of age or older who meet all of the following three criteria are eligible for intervention:1. Are incapable of meeting their own basic needs or of protecting themselves from harm due to mental and/or physical incapacity2. Are in need of protection from actual or threatened harm, neglect or hazardous conditions caused by the action or inaction of either themselves or other individuals3. The Department of Social Services (DSS) is one of four Departments within the Division of Health and Human Services. DSS is Sullivan County's local district for social services which administers all phases of social services and public assistance programs. DSS helps residents of Sullivan County achieve wellbeing and independence through opportunities that protect, empower, respect choice and preserve dignity.
The Children and Family Services program strives to create a team supported environment, and encouraging active participation in the planning and decision making for the child.
