What is a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS)?
A personal emergency response system is a unit that can lets you call for help in an emergency situation by pushing a button on either a pendant or wristband. When the help button is pressed the 24- hour emergency center is notified. The emergency center associate can speak directly with the client through a device that is connected to your telephone. If a client presses the help button and can't speak, the representative will quickly send assistance.
What services are generally offered?
Systems can include a variety of services such as daily medication reminders, wireless systems, GPS locators, and fall activation. A family member and/or neighbor will be also be contacted whenever assistance is needed How do I choose an Emergency Response System? Your local NY Connects can help you decide which system is right for you. How do I pay for an Emergency Response System? Medicaid may approve payment for the service if eligible.
