Programs that are responsible for preventing, investigating, controlling and extinguishing fires. Activities include fire safety education, firefighting, investigating the causes of suspicious fires, maintaining equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur, and enforcing fire codes which protect lives and property from fires and explosions arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, or from conditions hazardous to life and property in the use or occupancy of buildings or other premises.

Erway Ambulance Service is the Primary Provider of Emergent Paramedic and Ambulance Services to Chemung County. Dispatched by the Chemung County 911 center and our own Dispatch Center we respond to life endangering emergencies in the community including Motor Vehicle Crashes, Heart Attacks, Strokes, Breathing Difficulties and many more. Erway Ambulance has been providing this service since 1939 and is continuously striving to provide the best care possible to the ill and injured in our coverage area.
SUNY Broome offers a Defensive Driving Course that offers new approaches to accident prevention. New York State drivers who complete the course become eligible for discounts on their auto insurance.
Stepping On is a falls prevention program run by Independence Awareness, Inc. The workshop meets two hours a week for seven weeks. Topics include: balance and strength training, the role vision plays in balance, how medication can contribute to falls, community safety, choosing the right footwear, hazards in your home, and vitamin D and nutrition. Classes are led by a Registered Nurse.
